CECT G1 – A Look at the Clone of T Mobile’s Google Android Smart Phone
Probably the most popular cell phone today next to the iPhone is T Mobile’s G1. This little power house puts all of the Google applications (you tube, search, gmail, maps, chat, calendar, etc.) right at your fingertips so that you can get to these applications that many of use daily with the push of one button. This phone also has the finger touch interface that allows you to scroll through and navigate around by dragging your finger or flipping through like you are turning the pages of a book. But, this phone comes with a high price and with the requirement of a contract. Many folks are looking for a non committal way to enjoy the same features without the commitment. Enter the CECT G1, made by the same folks who brought you all of these popular iPhone clones. I’ll go over some of the features of the CECT G1 in the following article.
The CECT G1 Is A Dead Ringer For The Original (Looks Wise): If you’re going only on how the phone looks, you’re bound to be pleasantly surprised by the knock off. If you hold the phones side by side, it’s very difficult to tell the difference because they look so much alike. The clone even has the T Mobile logo on it and even the box is completely identical. The welcome and menu screens are completely identical as well, right down to that little clock with the hands at the welcome page. Of course, you can customize this however you want it, but straight out of the box, it looks very much like T Mobile’s version.
Features On The CECT G1: I have to get this out of the way first off. The clone doesn’t have the flip out key pad or GPS or WiFi. You text and input data on a digital QWERTY keyboard that is almost identical to the iPhone clones. This gets the job done, but it’s not the real raised keys like the original has. Other than that, this phone does have all of the features of the original including all of the one touch Google applications. The phone is a quad band. It does have the ability to change screen orientation based on which way you are holding it. It has a large 3 inch touch screen that has a high resolution and is very responsive. It has an interface that is a dead ringer for Google Android and it has a 3.0 mega pixel digital camera in addition to the MP3 / MP4 player , Bluetooth, WAP browser, ebook reader, voice recorder, and FM radio. This phone also has the ability to send long text SMS to a variety of groups or individuals. It can accommodate up to 8GB of memory.
So, Is The Clone As Good As The Original?: In terms of having all of the features and being a high quality responsive phone, yes. But the clone doesn’t have the keyboard, GPS, or WiFi. Still, if you’re just looking for a cheap phone that allows you most of the popular features without the hassle of a contract or without needing to wait for your contract to be up so that you can get another phone, the clone may be the way to go.
You won’t be out a lot of money (as you can generally get one of these for not much more than $100) and you can go with which ever low cost GSM carrier that you wish. If you’re dying for the original and all that this entails, you may be happier spending the extra money, but if you are only looking for the Google features on the cheap, the knock off gets the job done for very little money.
